I have been using Dreamweaver CS4 for some time now, but I just opened the program and got that error. If you are experiencing this error it’s likely that your layout files were corrupted.
I have been getting this xml parsing fatal error: stating that the file Designer.xml could not be read. Here is the easy fix:
- From any explorer window or your control panel. Click Tools>Folder Options. Click the View Tab. Click ‘Show hidden files and folders’.
- Depending on your OS navigate to C:
:/….Application
Data/Adobe/Dreamweaver/en_us/Configuration/Workspace. Create a new folder
and move all the files in that directory into this new folder. Restart
Dreamweaver and you should be back in business.
Please let me know if this helped anyone!

Works a treat!
thanks
Works like a charme. In Workspace folder you can actually delete both files (current.txt and Designer.xml). Once Dreamweaver is restarted, current.txt will be created automatically, and Designer.xml will be generated when Dreamweaver will be closed. After that, you should be fine
My issue was with the classic workspace. I deleted the classic.xml and current .txt.
Thanks again
Genius THANKS!!!
It is unable to parse the Xml file correctly, DOM error. delete the Designer.XML file from the workspace path (see the path in the error message). It will work back normal again I’m sure.
This solution occurred to me almost instantly, but I can’t try it because the path doesn’t exist. When I navigate to C:UsersSeanAppDataRoamingAdobe there is no “Dreamweaver CS5″ folder, which is the next step in the path. I can see hidden files/folders (I double checked), so it is something else. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks Kevin!
thanks a million!!!
Thanks so much, fixed it!
It actually worked. Amazing… after uninstalling Design Premium CS5, reinstalling and STILL not being able to get into DW… this solution actually worked. Now to make up for lost time…
Thanks for posting this fix.

Thank so much, I fixed it in CS5
